“Pain and discomfort should not be a lifestyle.”
Fibromyalgia is a disorder that is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, and sleep-, memory- and mood-related issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.
Fibromyalgia symptoms might be triggered after physical trauma, surgery, infection, or significant psychological stresses. In other cases, the symptoms can gradually accumulate over time without a triggering event.
Women are more likely to develop fibromyalgia than men. Many fibromyalgia patients also present with tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, and depression.
Although there currently is no cure for fibromyalgia, acupuncture can help to control its associated symptoms and to relieve the joint and muscle pain associated with fibromyalgia. In addition, exercise, relaxation, and stress-reduction techniques can also help to alleviate symptoms.
The following signs and symptoms might manifest during the onset or progression of fibromyalgia:
- Sleep issues
- Anxiety & Depression
- Digestive disorders
- Memory & Concentration problems
- Numbness and tingling of the hands and feet
